RACE PARTICIPANT GUIDE

Congratulations on registering for the Bay Area Runners Club's 46th Annual Bay City St Patrick's Day Races presented by Catholic Federal Credit Union!

Please read through this participant guide for answers to many questions participants may have to help make this weekend's race experience a great one.

If you have a question that is not answered in this guide, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions page of the BayCityStPatricksDayRaces.com website linked in the button below.  


There are a few things we'd like to point out here as they are important and warrant attention of participants:

  • Strollers, Baby Joggers and Dogs are NOT allowed on the race course for the 8k Run, 5k Run, or 5k Walk events. Please do not bring them. If found in the race corral or on the course, the participant will be asked to remove them. Failure to do so will result in bib number being recorded and participant being disqualified. Organizers reserve the right to ban those who break this rule from future events. For the single exception to this rule (inclusion in the my Team Triumph 8k event start), please refer to the FAQ page on the Race Website.

  • For the lucky 900 participants who made it into the Irish Double, ID medals will be distributed after the 8k race. If you choose not to run the 8k, please do not expect to receive your Irish Double medal when finishing the 5k event.

  • Those new to 5k racing... It is perfectly ok to take a break from running and walk a bit if you are registered for the 5k RUN event. It is NOT ok to run ANY PART of the 5k WALK event. If you think you would like to run some of the race, then please sign up for the 5k Run event! Please see Guideline for Walkers for more information.

  • Sunday Morning Packet Pickup closes at 10:45AM. At 11:30AM, the doors will be closed in conjunction with the start of the 5K events. Any packets/shirts not picked up before then will be considered forfeit. Shirts will NOT be mailed to or available for pickup by participants. If you know you’ll be unable to make the race, please arrange to have a friend pick your shirt up for you.

  • Award Clarification: All OVERALL awards will be determined by “Gun Start”. AGE GROUP awards will be determined by chip timing. See AWARDS below for further information.

EXPO, LATE REGISTRATION, & PACKET PICKUP

Saturday March 16th 10:00am - 3:00pm

The 13th Annual Fitness Expo presented by McLaren Bay Region is held on Saturday March 16, 2019 at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, 225 Washington, Bay City, MI 48708.  The EXPO is open 10:00am to 3:00pm.  

Giveaways to the first 2,000 participants to pick up their registration packets!  Must be present to receive the giveaway (i.e., those picking up for friends may NOT take a giveaway item for their friends).  The Leprechaun race starts at 2:00pm, west of the YMCA on Saginaw Street, Bay City, MI 48708.

Parking for the Expo is available in the Uptown area along streets and in the Uptown parking lot.  Please DO NOT Park in the Children’s Medical Group Lot East of the YMCA! They are open for business Saturday and will have any non-customer vehicles towed. YMCA Parking is for members ONLY. Please keep in mind that streets behind the YMCA will close at approximately 1:30 for the Leprechaun Races and that lots entering/exiting Saginaw Rd will be CLOSED to traffic until conclusion of the Leprechaun races (approximately 3PM). Plan accordingly and choose parking wisely!

SHIRTS - Participants who registered on or before Midnight on Feb 28th, 2019 are guaranteed an event shirt in the size they selected. Anyone who registered after that date can select a shirt in sizes available after picking up their race bib. We ordered LOTS of shirts. Be to the expo early for the best chance at the shirt size you want!

HOODIES - If you purchased a hoody, it will be available for pickup at the Expo or during packet pickup Sunday morning. If you are unable to make it to the race and purchased a hoody, PLEASE arrange to have someone pick it up for you. Those not claimed during packet pickup will be considered forfeit and will NOT be delivered.

Sunday March 17th 8:30am - 10:45am

Late registration and Packet Pickup take place at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, 225 Washington Ave, Bay City, MI 48708.

NOTE: NO REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS OF RACE REGISTRATIONS. 

Before arriving at Packet Pickup, please click on the link below to look up your race bib number and avoid having to search through paper sheets. This will get you to your correct pickup location much faster!


RACE LOCATION

Sunday's races take place approximately 1/2 mile North of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA (please plan accordingly to make it to the start line in time for your race).  The Start/Finish line is located at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Center Avenue (M-25).  Address to use for navigation: 300 Center Ave, Bay City, MI 48708.  


LEPRECHAUN RUN DETAILS

Leprechaun Run
Saturday March 16, 2019
Start Time:  2:00pm

 

Leprechaun Run for kids takes place on Saturday March 16, 2019 at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA, 225 Washington, Bay City at 2:00pm. Day of Registration is 10:00am to 1:45.  If you are registering on Race Day, please arrive by 1:30pm to avoid the last minute rush. The races will be held West of the YMCA on Saginaw Street. Distances include 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and 1 mile races.  Snacks will be provided by the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. Parents may run with children at no additional cost.

NOTE: Leprechaun race participants may run in any or all of the events (1 mile, 1/2 mile and/or 1/4 mile). The event is NOT timed and there are no awards. There WILL BE finisher medals. We ask that participants please take ONE medal ONLY - regardless of how many times they run. We want to ensure there are enough medals for all of the youth participants. Thank you!


8K DETAILS

my Team Triumph 8k Start Time: 9:20am
8k Run Start Time: 9:30am

This course is flat and fast!  The start and finish is at the intersection between Center and Washington Avenues in downtown Bay City.  The route heads East along Center before turning north on Park Ave.  From Park Ave, runners will turn and head East onto Nebobish until reaching a turnaround point and heading back to Park Ave where they will turn Southward.  Runners will turn right at 2nd Street and head Westward before turning left (Southward) on N Trumball.  The route then goes to Center Avenue where participants will turn Westward and begin the long straightaway to the finish line.


5K DETAILS

5k Run Start Time: 11:30am
5k Walk Start Time: 11:35am

This course is flat and fast!  The start and finish is at the intersection between Center and Washington Avenues in downtown Bay City.  The route heads East along Center before turning north on Park Ave.  From Park Ave, the course turns back West at 2nd Street and then South on N Trumball Street before returning to Center Avenue where runners and walkers will turn Westward and make the long straightaway to the finish line.

RACE PARKING

Street parking is plentiful in Downtown Bay City.  There are numerous  parking lots accessible too - and they are all open on Sundays!  For those picking up packets or registering late on Sunday morning, keep in mind that the YMCA is nearly 1/2 mile from the race start line.  Plan accordingly to be sure you find parking at arrive in time for race start!


AWARDS

Awards are for OVERALL 1st-3rd, MASTERS 1st-3rd, and AGE GROUP TOP THREE for 8k Run, 5k Run, and 5k Walk distances.  They will be available approximately 1 week after the race at Runners Athletic Company Stores of Bay City, Saginaw, Midland and Mount Pleasant.  An email will go out to winners notifying them of the process to request pickup at the Runners store of their choice.  

NOTE:  Overall Award placing is determined by GUN START TIME.  This means that the time for overall awards (and Masters Overall Awards) for the 8K Run, 5K Run, and 5K Walk events begins when the "GO" is given.  Please position yourself at the start line accordingly if you are competing for overall awards.  Age Group Awards will be determined by CHIP TIME.  This means that your time for Age Group Awards will begin when you cross the start line and will end when you cross the finish line. 


LOCAL PRE, DURING, & POST RACE ACTIVIES

St Patrick's Day in Downtown Bay City is amazing!  Check out the new City Market (The Pantry is providing the bananas and apples at this year's race!) near the Start/Finish line before, during, or after the races for the freshest Michigan grown food provided by Farmers, Shops, and Eateries!  Coffee will be there. Hang around at one of the many restaurants, bars or shops until the Parade comes along!

Check out the sounds from our sponsoring media host DJ’s from AlphaMedia’s Mix 106.3 and The Moose 94.5 at the Start/Finish Line on race day!

Those in need of a shower after their race are welcome to use the facilities at Dow Bay Area Family YMCA - site of the Race Expo and packet pickup. Runners/walkers must show a race bib to gain access and must sign in at the front desk. Bring a towel!
